A ‘Golden’ opportunity for the Melanoma Fund

Alongside our official advisors and ambassadors, generating a passionate, active, and committed board of trustees is vital for any charity, and a key focus here at the Melanoma Fund.

We are proud to announce we have a new Board member, and one that we know will help take the charity’s messages deeper into sport and outdoor recreation.

James Golden, AKA The Fitness Pro, is a leading fitness coach and industry expert, with over 20 years of experience in the health and fitness industry. He has worked with some of the industry’s most esteemed professionals and features regularly in lifestyle publications and on BBC health radio.

James set up his consultancy practice in 2019 following ten years of running his own fitness club and gaining experience in coaching elite sports professionals, guest speaking at events, and forming brand partnerships.

Although he is well versed in talking about fitness, what he hasn’t done so much in the past is discussed his brush with melanoma, which is something he now sees as part of his work. Diagnosed not once, but twice, in 2006 and 2008, the first requiring major surgery to remove, he cites his background in elite sport and outdoor training as a major factor in his diagnosis.

“My melanoma experience was frightening and life affirming, as well as being one that I am so grateful for being at the other end of. A chance meeting with Daniel Price, an existing trustee of the Melanoma Fund, provided a light bulb moment! Supporting a charity which raises awareness of skin cancer, in my sector, was obviously the perfect platform for me to educate and inspire and really make a difference.”

Say’s Michelle Baker, CEO of the Melanoma Fund; “Our campaigns are backed by 100’s of national governing bodies of sport, and outdoor recreation organisations. Our team of trustees, ambassadors, and advisors help us make the most of this support, each bringing unique strengths to the table, to direct our strategy and take our messages deeper into the heart of sport.

I am delighted that James has joined us as not only a trustee but also a Sunguard ambassador. His attitude is all about motivating, inspiring, and creating impact, and I cannot wait to start working with him as part of the wider team, to shape our plans for 2023 and beyond”
