Gary Alliss

PGA Master Professional

“If I knew then what I know now about sun safety, I’d have done things very differently.”

Gary is golf royalty — the son of the legendary Peter Alliss and a PGA Master Professional with decades of experience as a player, coach and commentator. Having spent a lifetime on the fairways, Gary has paid a heavy price for years of sun exposure, with multiple basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) removed from his skin, including from his face.

Now, as a proud Sunguard ambassador, Gary is using his platform to warn others. His message is simple: don’t wait for a diagnosis to take sun safety seriously. Golfers protect their clubs better than their skin — a culture that must change if the game is to evolve responsibly.

With his deep ties to the sport and its traditions, Gary believes in using education to challenge old habits. “We need to grow skin cancer out of golf,” he says — and that starts with changing perceptions at every level, from PGA pros. club members to tour players.

Whether you’re a weekend golfer or working in the game, Gary’s experience is a wake-up call: sun damage is cumulative, preventable, and no one is immune.
