Ian Howieson

PGA Professional

As proud Scotsman with over 45 years of experience as a PGA Professional, Ian has dedicated his career to shaping the future of golf while championing the well-being of players. Recently recognised with the prestigious PGA Master Professional status, Ian has coached and mentored countless aspiring golfers, including guiding a young Paul Lawrie, the former Open champion, during his PGA training.

With his fair Scottish complexion, Ian has always been aware of the importance of sun safety. This became even more personal following his recent diagnosis with basal cell carcinoma (BCC), a common form of skin cancer. Reflecting on his diagnosis, Ian recalled; “When I went in for my skin referral, the nurse immediately asked, ‘Are you a golfer?’ That moment reinforced how crucial it is for golfers to take sun protection seriously.”

As a Sunguard ambassador, Ian will use his platform to educate others about the risks of sun exposure, particularly in outdoor sports like golf. His advocacy ensures that players and professionals alike prioritise skin protection, creating a safer and more informed community. Ian’s dedication to golf and health awareness embodies his lifelong mission: to leave a meaningful legacy both on and off the course.
